The ‘1st Congress Churches and LGBTI+ Community: ecumenical dialogues for respect for diversity’ was held between 19th and 22nd of June 2019, in the city of São Paulo. The Congress was organised by the Parish of the Holy Trinity of the Episcopal Anglican Church in Brazil and Koinonia–Ecumenical Presence in Service. As we consider this congress a historic landmark in the debates concerning religions and sexualities that escape from cisheteronormativity in Brazil, in the course of this article, we propose to (...) analyse the social and political conjuncture that motivated the event. In a second step, we will briefly describe the structure of the event, as well as its objectives, in order to understand the assumptions that guided the construction of the Letter of São Paulo, the official and public document of the Congress, approved in plenary by the participants. We believe that the Congress and the Letter of São Paulo have political potential, as they claim the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex+ people as people of faith and denounce forms of oppression, exclusion and marginalisation reinforced by conservative and hegemonic religious discourses. O estudo objetivou identificar e compreender significados presentes em narrativas maternas de consumo, com foco em roupas e acessórios infantis. Por meio de reflexões teóricas sobre maternidade, consumo e a crescente interação de mulheres em comunidades virtuais, criou-se um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturado que permitiu a elaboração de categorias analíticas. Como resultados, identificou-se: o descarte representado nas doações de roupas e acessórios infantis para familiares e amigos como reafirmação de laços; roupas de bebê como fonte de memória e afeto e (...) a expansão da consciência sustentável. Percebeu-se ainda que, apesar da forte influência de especialistas nos ideais de maternidade e, consequentemente no consumo materno, há uma crescente emergência de autonomia das mulheres mães através de interações em comunidades virtuais e em redes sociais. The aim of this paper is to understand the place of tragedy and the tragic in Heidegger's philosophy. To do this, we analyzed a compilation of references in which the German philosopher mentions Greek tragedy or the notion of tragic. In the end, it was possible to conclude from his direct citations to tragedy and tragedy, that this theme is constituted and based on the way Heidegger thinks about the history of being, but not only that, it is possible to (...) see the reverse movement also occurring, that is, that Heidegger's philosophy of history can be read from the way the philosopher understands the tragic. O fio condutor deste artigo consiste em abordar a relação filosófica entre arte e realidade e o modo como as vanguardas artísticas do século XX, em especial o surrealismo, colocam em questão essa dicotomia ao se perguntar pelo papel da arte ante a realidade e pôr em xeque os modelos de representação tradicionais. É nosso objetivo, em um primeiro momento, mediante revisão bibliográfica, expor o papel da arte ante a realidade de acordo com a tradição filosófica e os modelos de (...) representação tradicionais e, em um segundo momento, analisar de que forma as vanguardas artísticas, em especial o surrealismo, subvertem esses modelos, partindo de estudos de filósofos da arte e da exemplaridade de algumas obras e manifestos europeus, mencionando também o caso brasileiro. Notamos, a partir destes dois momentos, que a ideia de realidade pode expressar tanto a realidade política, construída hierarquicamente aos moldes de uma tradição racionalista, moral e burguesa, quanto pode expressar o apagamento, pela arte, dos limites estabelecidos por essa realidade reificada para evocar uma realidade abscondita e primitiva, pertencente ao mesmo domínio subversivo da arte, como faz o surrealismo. Foi possível concluir que, se na tradição filosófica e nos modelos tradicionais de representação se estabelece, de modo geral, uma fissura entre o mundo da arte e o mundo real, em algumas manifestações vanguardistas, especialmente o surrealismo, visualiza-se uma tentativa de reunificação entre arte e realidade, assim como a própria noção de realidade é transformada. O objetivo deste trabalho é entender, por algumas vias escolhidas, o que significa pensar o limiar final da história, enquanto história da metafísica. Trata-se de partir da conferência de Derrida sobre um tom apocalíptico da filosofia contemporânea a respeito dos múltiplos fins que a filosofia do século XIX ao século XX proclamou, para evocar como Heidegger, o autor guia dessas considerações, pensa o fim da história da metafísica enquanto era da técnica e o desdobramento de suas consequências enquanto possibilidade de (...) catástrofe civilizacional ou transformação do modo ocidental de pensar e agir. Em primeiro lugar, procura-se pensar esse fim da metafísica enquanto crise do regime metafísico e moderno de historicidade. Em segundo lugar, é preciso entender de que maneira a filosofia de Heidegger nos auxilia a pensar o limiar dessa história enquanto discordância temporal, isto é, prolongamento catastrófico do ser enquanto técnica, ou a possibilidade de um outro acontecimento. Em terceiro lugar, gostaríamos de pensar as consequências filosóficas que o pensar nesse limiar acarreta para a possibilidade do agir humano numa situação que, como podemos encontrar em Agamben, constitui o irreparável e possibilita a transparência ética da práxis no “tempo depois do último dia”. Partindo da interpretação heideggeriana de Nietzsche pretendemos pensar a questão do fim da metafísica nos situando na contenda entre esses dois pensadores. Para isso, centraremos nossa análise na discussão sobre a vontade de poder. A maneira pela qual Heidegger interpretou Nietzsche como o filósofo do fim da metafísica, inserindo-o radicalmente nessa tradição, e o sentido que deu para a noção de vontade de poder é foco de discordâncias entre intérpretes “pós-heideggerianos” de Nietzsche. Por isso, trataremos de apresentar também uma outra (...) versão da doutrina da vontade de poder, partindo de Müller-Lauter e dialogando com outros intérpretes, pois é nossa intenção mostrar que uma nova concepção da vontade de poder aliada à interpretação de uma ontologia não-essencialista em Nietzsche pode desvincular o filósofo de ter seu pensamento adequado à metafísica e ao mundo da técnica, tal como pensou Heidegger. The objective of this work is to understand how Heidegger is inserted in the tradition referring to the German philosophy of the resumption of Ancient Greece and how this author differs from this tradition, having a different way of relating to the Greece from its thought of history. For this, we resume some key points of the philosophical relationship between Greece and Germany, with the aim of establishing a dialogue between Heidegger, Hölderlin and Hegel about the way of understanding ancient (...) Greece as an important point in the constitution of the philosophy of history of each author, articulated by relationship between antiquity and modernity. This choice is justified by the pretense of understanding the originality of Heidegger's Greece, as Hegel is the author, belonging to German idealism, with the greatest influence on Heidegger's thought of history; Hölderlin, on the other hand, is the poet who mediates the relationship between Heidegger and the Greeks, in addition to being out of metaphysics, according to Heidegger. Throughout the text, an attempt is also made to apply Ricoeur's thesis that the German conception of Greece varies between the classical and the archaic and can take on shades of nostalgia or mourning. Este artículo pretende analizar cómo el arte, para Heidegger, se muestra a sí mismo como una manifestación del ser contrafactual al modo de ser de la tecnología, entendida como la época final de la metafísica. Para ello, será necesario analizar la noción griega de tecnología y cómo esta noción está inicialmente vinculada tanto al conocimiento de la producción de utensilios como al conocimiento de la producción artística. De esta manera, veremos cómo la tecnología griega, entendida como un conocimiento, se convierte, (...) con el predominio de la metafísica, en una acción que se desarrolla a lo largo de la historia hasta el momento de la tecnología moderna. Desde la consumación de la metafísica en la era de la tecnología que pretendemos mostrar, centrándonos en el ensayo El origen de la obra de arte (1936), ese arte, para Heidegger, que es a la vez consanguíneo y ajeno a la técnica moderna, nos muestra una Relación más original con el ser y con nociones que se le atribuyen, como verdad y origen. A questão do trágico é um importante eixo teórico da filosofia alemã pautado não somente na filosofia da arte, mas também no desenvolvimento de teses ontológicas que constituem a chamada filosofia do trágico. Heidegger, como herdeiro da tradição alemã, se debruçou sobre essa questão - principalmente em sua interpretação do primeiro estásimo da Antígona de Sófocles - que pode ser encontrada em diversos pontos de sua filosofia no período de 1935-1946. Inserindo-nos no debate da filosofia do trágico, nosso objetivo é (...) investigar: 1) de que modo a questão do trágico se manifesta em Heidegger; 2) em que medida Heidegger se diferencia ou se aproxima da filosofia do trágico e de autores que refletiram sobre essa questão, especificamente Hegel e Hölderlin. Nossa hipótese é que há uma via trágica original no pensamento heideggeriano, sustentada por sua noção conflitual de verdade, que é uma chave de leitura da história do ser, passível de ser construída em embate com Hegel e Hölderlin. Durante los años 80 en Buenos Aires comenzaron a multiplicarse los casos de una enfermedad mortal que afectaba especialmente a jóvenes. Silenciosa y desconocida, generó pánico y estigmatización hacia quienes la contraían ya que no se conocía las verdaderas formas de contagio y la muerte de los infectados resultaba inminente. En esos años, el sida fue catalogado como “peste rosa” o “un justo castigo divino” por sectores vinculados a la iglesia que acusaban a los enfermos de prácticas promiscuas y vergonzosas. (...) El presente trabajo se propone describir el impacto del HIV/sida en la comunidad del underground porteño y en particular analizar el caso del actor Batato Barea, para pensar algunas cuestiones diferenciales tanto de la enfermedad como de la manera que encontró la comunidad artística y LGTB de lidiar colectivamente con ella, mientras ni el Estado ni la comunidad científica internacional articulaban planes de acción efectivos para su cura. En consonancia con este planteo, indagaremos puntualmente en la ceremonia fúnebre de Batato Barea y su vínculo con los velorios festivos, en torno al HIV/sida, que se efectuaron en la comunidad artística en esos años. Analizaremos su impronta característica en relación a otros modos colectivos de enfrentar la muerte y reclamar por una cura, en los funerales del grupo activista ACT UP, realizados en Estados Unidos y Europa. En suma, postulamos que este tipo de funerales festivos, como el de Batato Barea, buscaban preservar la integridad anímica, sobre todo, de quienes estando infectados luchaban contra la enfermedad. Este artigo visa analisar indícios verbo-visuais de episódios de mal-estar enunciados por alunos que integram turmas da modalidade Educação de Jovens Adultos (EJA) em uma escola do interior baiano. Dedicamo-nos, especialmente, a compreender como os sujeitos semiotizam situações de embaraço social vivenciadas em salas de aula e(m) seus (d)efeitos. Como referencial teórico, partimos de pressupostos da Análise Dialógica do Discurso, da Clínica da Atividade e de outras categorias discursivas para lermos, a partir de uma dimensão axiológica, o corpus que é (...) composto por duas biograficzines. A análise dos dados registra que os (res)sentimentos dos discentes, que se deixam materializar em termos verbo-visuais, deflagram situações que ilustram a complexidade de dinâmicas que perfazem interações didáticas no ambiente escolar. Trabalhos como o nosso contribuem para tensionar a realidade escolar-profissional possibilitando a exploração de outros ângulos de nossas atividades como sujeitos sociais. (shrink)

Este artigo visa analisar modos de axiologizar o bem-estar na escola em enunciados produzidos por alunos do 9º ano do ensino fundamental de uma escola municipal do interior baiano. Interessa-nos, especialmente, compreender como os sujeitos semiotizam, em seus enunciados, o que consideram o evento mais marcante de suas experiências ao longo dos anos finais do ensino fundamental e o que isso nos informa sobre os valores ali mobilizados relativos ao papel social e institucional da escola e(m) suas modalidades de convivência (...) intersubjetiva. As análises destacam que as memórias verbo-visualmente materializadas não se limitam a registros, abrigados na consciência, mas são repositórios de experiências afetivas de e em diversos cronotopos. O fato de as memórias apresentadas recobrirem diferentes eventos interacionais oferecem-nos uma visão crítica dos estudantes de como percebem e matizam complexidades das interações por eles rememoradas e enunciadas. Trabalhos, como o nosso, que se interessam pelos afetamentos de alunos, contribuem, localmente, para que o contexto escolar seja (re)(des)coberto, tensionando como percepções sociais são semiotizadas em horizontes apreciativos de experiências. This article aims to bring a discussion about inclusion in times of biopolitics and neoliberalism and, for that, we will present concepts and understandings about normalization, medicalization, and neoliberalism. In the search for an analytical movement and using the methodology of bibliographic research, we selected three academic works defended by the GEduMaD research group and we read them from the theoretical lens presented at the beginning of the text.

The concept of indiscernibility in a structure is analysed with the aim of emphasizing that in asserting that two objects are indiscernible, it is useful to consider these objects as members of (the domain of) a structure. A case for this usefulness is presented by examining the consequences of this view to the philosophical discussion on identity and indiscernibility in quantum theory.

Uptake and Conventionality in Illocution The aim of this paper is to put forward a new way of conceiving of the conventionality of illocutionary acts, grounded in a new look at Austin's original ideas. While the indispensability of uptake has correctly been deemed to be a hallmark of illocution, it has also been taken as evidence of the intention-based nature of illocutionary acts as opposed to their alleged conventionality. After discussing the readings of the "securing of uptake" offered by Strawson (...) and Searle and commenting on the consequently established divide between "communicative" and conventional speech acts, I claim that illocutionary acts are conventional, first of all, because they have conventional effects. I show that Austin took such effects to be essential to illocution and argue that the bringing about of conventional effects is bound up with the indispensability of uptake. (shrink)

This thesis is intended to analyze a mental phenomenon widely neglected in current philosophical discussions: personal memories. The first part presents a general framework to better understand what personal memories are, how we access our personal past and what we access about our personal past. Chapter 1 introduces traditional theories of memory: direct realism and representationalism in their different versions, as well as some objections. I defend here a particular form of representationalism that is based on the distinction between content, (...) intentional object and ontological object. Chapter 2 explores the possible contents of our personal memories, which prove to be heterogeneous, whereas chapter 3 analyses their possible intentional objects, with a special focus on past events. The second part of the thesis explores an aspect of our personal memories that was omitted in the first part: the senses in which our personal past is apprehended as personal. Chapter 4 examines the way in which the “self” intervenes in the construction of our personal memories. Chapters 5 and 6 focus on the analysis of what seems to be the most subjective aspect of our memories, that is, the emotions and feelings of our past experiences. In these last two chapters, I analyze the different interactions that can take place between memories and emotions and defend the idea that there can be emotional memories that are reducible neither to a propositional memory nor an occurrent and present emotion. The overall intention of this thesis is twofold. First, I aim to show to the philosophical community that there is still a lot to be said and discussed about memory as a mental phenomenon. And second, I intend to emphasize the importance of bringing into the philosophical discussions about the mind ideas coming from different philosophical traditions as well as ideas and empirical data coming from scientific research. Procuramos fundamentar a hipótese de que, segundo o autor grego, só pode haver política enquanto houver povo e este não estiver corrompido. Tal interpretação se desdobra em quatro momentos fundamentais da argumentação de Políbio: o da constituição do povo junto ao aparecimento da moralidade e da lei; a participação do povo para o funcionamento dos regimes políticos, (...) com destaque para a relação entre consentimento popular e legitimidade do exercício do poder; a operação da reciprocidade e as circunstâncias de ruptura; e o fim da política, que em Políbio é acompanhada pelo fim da própria civilização, que decorre da corrupção popular. The principal aim of this essay is to explore aspects of the phenomenon of moral conversation at work in ascriptions of responsibility. A corollary aim will be to understand the variety of freedom we regard as foundational to ascriptions of responsibility. To ascribe responsibility to a person is to judge that the person is accountable for her behavior. Accountability demands that a person be a moral interlocutor; being a moral interlocutor requires that a person is alert to moral reasons in (...) favor of or against the behavior in question and requires that a person is a discursive partner. So understood, ascriptions of responsibility may be characterized as resting on some version of a contractualist theory of morality, where one mark of fitness for membership in the community of moral agents is an ability to adjust one’s behavior in keeping with norms that others could not reasonably reject. Ele introduz o tema do amor e inicia seu discurso com uma série de referências à tradição, incluindo figuras como Hesíodo, Acusilau e Parmênides, para elogiar Eros. Fedro enfatiza o papel do amor na guerra, na política e nas relações amorosas, ressaltando como o amor motiva os humanos a agirem de maneira excepcional. Seu argumento culmina na ideia de que o ápice (...) do amor é a disposição de morrer por aqueles a quem amamos. Ilustra essa perspectiva com exemplos de casais: Alceste e Admeto, Orfeu e Eurídice e Aquiles e Pátroclo, demonstrando como o amor está intrinsecamente ligado à morte e como este sacrifício é recompensado pelos deuses. Esta tradução destaca termos específicos usados em contextos pederásticos como erastes e eromenos, através da transliteração, diferenciando-os de termos mais genéricos para amantes e amados. A introdução aborda brevemente como a compreensão das relações pederásticas e questões relacionadas ao gênero das personagens podem influenciar a interpretação do discurso. Thomas Reid offers an explanation of how memory of events is possible. This paper presents, criticize,s and amends his view that memory not only preserves our knowledge of the external world, but also contributes to such knowledge, by being essential for the perception of events. Reid’s views on memory are in line with his generalanti-skeptical commitments, and thus attractive, for several reasons. One reason is that, just like perception, memory is not infallible, but it can constitute or, at least, ground (...) knowledge. Reid argues that memory, like perception, is immediate: it gives direct access to the external world, and not to mental representations of the external world. Another reason is that Reid’s explanation of how memory of events works emphasizes the impor- tance of the divide between memory and perception and consciousness: it is one thing to perceive or be conscious of something; it is another to remember that thing. Despite these advantages, a careful study of Reid’s views on memory will uncover a serious problem of general philosophical interest: it is unclear how exactly we are able to remember events episodically, since it is not settled whether we ever literally perceive events. This problem is engendered by a clash of the following two intuitions: (i) we can perceive only presently existing things, and (ii) we can remember events, which usually span periods of time longer than the present (whether the present is durationless or not). This dissertation gives what I consider to be the proper account of Edmund Husserl's theories of intentionality and meaning. This account stresses that meaning is the content of intentional acts of consciousness and thus establishes the necessary connection between meaning and consciousness. ;I also maintain that the two leading interpretations of Husserl's concept of the noema, the traditional interpretation of Aron Gurwitsch and the more recent interpretation of Dagfinn Follesdal, are unsatisfactory because each ignores some fundamental aspect of Husserl's concept (...) of the noema. Furthermore, I argue that Follesdal's misleading interpretation of the noema as a Fregean Sinn renders the connection between meaning and consciousness contingent and has facilitated the view, advanced by some recent commentators, that Husserl was primarily a linguistically motivated philosopher. ;I argue that, since for Husserl, the connection between consciousness and meaning is necessary, rather than contingent, no theory of meaning can be developed without first doing a phenomenological study of consciousness itself and of its essential characteristic, intentionality. ;In addition to this, I defend Husserl from criticisms raised against him by Martin Heidegger, Johannes Daubert, and George E. Oberlander. These criticisms are based upon misinterpretations of Husserl. I also consider a possible criticism against Husserl which might be raised by an adherent of Hilary Putnam's position that "meanings are not in the head". If meanings were mind-dependent, Putnam argues, communication would be impossible. I argue that the impossibility of communication does not follow from Husserl's position that meanings are mind-dependent. I demonstrate how Husserl accounts for communication by explaining that a speaker's intentions are intuited by a hearer when that speaker uses expressions to communicate his intentions. ;To conclude, I maintain that, because of the insightfulness of Husserl's theories of intentionality and meaning, it is imperative that phenomenologists go beyond the mistakes of the past and work to formulate an interpretation more faithful to Husserl's intentions. In the so-called "Spin-Echo Experiments" the behaviour of a spin's system seems to violate the second law of thermodynamics. For this reason the "Spin-Echo Experiments" are considered of particular interest for the Foundations of Physics. Interventionists have provided a classical explanation (Blatt, 1959; Ridderbos & Redhead, 1998) and a quantum-based explanation (Hemmo & Shenker, 2005) of these experiments. Here both interventionist explanations are assessed by means of the Manipulability Theory of Causal Explanation (Woodward, 2003). In my chapter "Christology and Anthropology in Friedrich Schleiermacher,” I discuss Schleiermacher's understanding of both the person and work of Christ. Schleiermacher's dialogue with the orthodox Christological tradition preceding him, as well as his understanding of the work of Christ, is founded on a critical analysis of the fundamental person-forming experience of being in relation to Christ and the community founded by him. I provide an analysis of Schleiermacher's discussion of the difficulties surrounding the use of the word "nature" in (...) relation to Jesus' humanity and divinity, and then move to discuss how Schleiermacher understands both the humanity and divinity of Jesus, as well as how the two stand in relation to one another. In the original divine decree Jesus Christ is ordained as the person through which the whole human race is to be completed and perfected, and the essence of perfect human nature just is to express divine. This is the essence of Schleiermacher's solution to the Christological problem, that is, of how the divine and the human can converge in one person. I then move to discuss Schleiermacher's understanding of the work of Christ as involving two interrelated moments. The first is the awakening of the God-consciousness. The second involves the self-expression of this God-consciousness in the form of Christian love in the community of believers. As such, the principle work of Christ is the founding of the kingdom of God. (shrink)

This paper provides analysis of Kant's Categorical Imperative and its relevance to religion. I discuss what the concept of a categorical imperative implies about self-transcendence, and what this understanding of self-transcendence indicates about the self's relation to God and others.

This article explores the early Schleiermacher's attempts to deal with difficult philosophical problems arising from Kant's ethics, specifically Kant's notion of transcendental freedom. How do we connect a transcendentally free act with the nature of the subject? Insofar as the act is transcendentally free, it cannot be understood in terms of causes, and this means that it cannot be connected with the previous state of the individual before he or she engaged in the act. I work through Schleiermacher's grappling with (...) this problem by taking a thorough look at some of Schleiermacher's early essays and reviews. My main focus will be Schleiermacher's early essay On Freedom, written between 1790-92. I will, however, also be taking a look at Schleiermacher's notes on Kant's second Critique (1789), the third of his Dialogues on Freedom(1789), and his critical review of Kant's Anthropology from a PragmaticPointof View (1799).
